Wood pellets are a type of renewable energy (biomass) produced from sawdust and wood chips. They are made by pressing and compressing sawdust or wood pulp into small pellets, usually cylindrical in shape.
Now that fossil fuels are gradually depleted, wood pellets are preferred because it brings certain benefits such as:
- Biofuel: Wood pellets are a clean, renewable and high-performance source of biofuel. They are widely used in heating, incinerators or boilers as an alternative to fossil fuels such as coal or petroleum. Wood pellets burn efficiently and produce less polluting emissions.
- Temperature regulation: Wood pellets have the ability to provide stable heat and better temperature control than other fuel sources. They can be used for space heating in the home, industry or agriculture.
- Reduce waste: Using wood pellets helps to reduce the amount of sawdust and other wood waste generated from wood and wood processing. Instead of being thrown away or inefficiently burned, sawdust can be recycled and used as compressed wood pellets.
- Easy to transport and store: Wood pellets are in size and shape, making them easy to transport and store. They also have a high compaction volume, which saves storage space compared to conventional sawdust.
